I don't like Rock Music, I'm not white!

This morning I caught an episode of The MoNique Show. I got excited when I saw the HANDSOME Lenny Kravitz come on the stage! About 5 minutes into his interview, he made a profound point that I've been trying to make for years!! He said one day some idiot (yeah, I said it) came up to him and said, "Hey, you're the guy who makes that white people music!"...did he really say that?! Of course Lenny had to give him a lesson on the history of Rock music. He told the "brother" (I'm paraphrasing)that rock music originated from BLACK people and that we're so quick to disown our own music.

Let me take a second to give a brief history, of rock music

Rock music debuted in the late 1940s/early 1950s. It is a combination of blues, country music, jazz and gospel. It ORIGINATED in the SOUTHERN United States of America. It DEVELOPED from musical traditions during TRANSATLANTIC SLAVERY.

Need I say more?!?!

All of you silly ass people who classify rock as "white" music need to go catch a clue! Even if you're not big on studying Black History, our beloved Beyonce stared in a movie a few years back called Cadillac Records.

I know you saw it!!! My question is, Did you pay attention?!?! The foundation of what you need to know is in that movie!

Bo Diddley

Chuck Berry

Little Richard

Muddy Waters

Check up on our black rockers! I can't stress the importance of knowing HISTORY!

NBC Undercovers: Cultural Diversity on Network TV is still Dead

On Tuesday, September 22, 2010, a new show debuted on CBS called
Undercovers. The show stars actors Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha- Raw. This is the first show on CBS in 20 years to cast black actors as main characters. According to The Nielsen Company, Undercovers was the 10th most watched show in the United State last week. The show was the 7th most watched show among African Americans. African Americans were 1, 141,000 of 8,710,000 viewers. At 7: 58 p.m. I began to watch CBS. The first 3 minutes of Undercovers showed no black people. After the third minute, Kodjoe and Mbatha-Raw were displayed in a scene. Kodjoe and Mbatha-Raw’s characters are multilingual spies. The fact that they speak different languages suggests that even though they’re black, they’re of different ethnicities. The show airs for an hour on Wednesdays with an estimated 17 minutes of commercial. There was 43 minutes of show footage and only three black people were shown. The ratio of blacks to whites in the commercial was unbelievable. During each commercial break I counted no more than 7 black people in commercials. Old Navy showed two black fashion manikins. The other five were white. A commercial promoting the movie “The Social Network” showed one Black person. A commercial for Smirnoff showed a crowd of people in a party setting. I could only spot three black people in the crowd. A commercial for another show call The Event aired as well. Actor Blair Underwood is the only black main character. Underwood’s character is named President Eli Martinez. Like Undercovers there is a suggestion being thrown around that he is of a different ethnicity even though he is black. Watching television reiterates that the multicultural representation in the media is not equal. Even with black actors being cast on network television we are still the minority on the screen. On top of that, the black representation that we see doesn’t represent the average black person in America.

I didn't say I did it but I didn't say I didn't do it either; The Eddie Long Accusations

Accusations against Eddie Long have been flooding the airwaves for about a week now. Four men have filed lawsuits against him for sexual misconduct. The men say that they were groomed for a sexual relationship while enrolled in LongFellow Youth Academy. The program is designed to teach teens how to conduct themselves financially and sexually. The optimistic side of my sOul hopes that the accusations aren't true but I wouldn't be surprised if they were. On Sunday, September 26, 2010, he stood before a packed sanctuary (that seats 10,000) and promised to fight the allegations in the court of law. Even though he compared himself to David against Goliath, he never denied the accusations. His dramatic performance mocking a scene from the famous comedy Coming to America (literally and figuratively) left me puzzled. In an article published by Errin Haines (Associated Press) it was stated that a young man in the second service wearing a blue shirt stood and abruptly shouted: "We want to know the truth, man!" and he was quickly escorted out.

Everything about his statement seemed arrogant to me. He didn't deny the accusations nor did he ask anyone to believe that he wasn't guilty. The only relevant thing he said was that he is not the man that they are making him out to be on television. I don't know what it is about black men in power that have money, power and influence that makes them think that they can get away with such filth. The fact that he is a popular rich black man in the United States makes him a target. The media and the United States has a history of attempting to destroy our people. For example , look at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Mayor Marion Berry and Chris Brown. Dr. King is almost discredited for his work and sacrifice because of his affairs. The media tried to destroy Marrion Berry in his 1990 drug charges. Chris Brown lost endorsements and fans due to domestic dispute with Rihanna. Situations like this happen in the white community ALL OF THE TIME! If it makes the news, they aren't treated as harsh as black people in similar situations. My question is, "What makes Eddie Long think he was going to get away with this?"

The Accusers
Laugh.Out.Loud.!!! The men claim that the sexual misconduct took place when they were 17/18. Hold UP!!! Any normal 17/18 year old knows what is right and wrong when it comes to sexual behavior. Unless Eddie Long forced himself on them, they're just as silly as he is. There is no way in hell a person who reads the Bible for themself could be manipulated into engaging in anything that they don't want to do for "spiritual purposes." Even if the Bible did say something as ridiculous as that, what SANE person would actually abide by it?! If this is a "get rich scheme" these men have planned, I hope they get the money they desire. It takes some bold people to say they were having a sexual relationship with another man at 17/18. It is hard for me to sympathize with the accusers. If they were 11/12 it would be a different story.

I predict that this story will result in some kind of monetary settlement. I don't know what the future holds for Eddie Long. I don't care if Eddie Long is homosexual or committing adultery. That is between him, God and his wife. But if these accusations are true I will have a major problem with him manipulating the word to trick people into his desires.
